What a terrifying video - I was particularly scared when they showed the poker tables, chips, and cards! Eeeeeek!
For the love of all things dramatic and overdone, they even showed autographed pics of Williamson and Esfandiari. (They play in the World Series of Poker, don’t ya know.)

Hmmm…another ‘exclusive’ to the teevee news people. I’m sure Dan knows how to ask the question about why one media outlet gets an exclusive and others don’t (chick reporters banging out the Chief?). I’m sure the others would like to bump their ratings, too. Hell, I’d like the blog hits for being the exclusive blogger to cover a militarized raid on a den of iniquity, ya know? Seeing as how it’s tax dollars funding SWAT, vice, etc. — why one and not the others?
I can’t wait to see if the Harris DAs prosecute any more vigourously than the Dallas DAs. Just once, I want to see someone demand a jury trial on this horseshit. I’m pretty sure that’s one of our rights.

Yikes, one thing I heard that was disturbing — the Channel 11 dude said “the DA’s office charged them with engaging in organized crime.” Let’s hope that is just a matter of bad reporting, which I am pretty sure it is.
While allegations of organized crime certainly wouldn’t hold up in court, they might in the court of public opinion.

And the doors were secured with LOCKS!

Locks? OMG. Only true criminals with something to hide use locks on their doors.

One bad beat too many. “SCrew this, I’m busting them”

Back in the day (96 - 00) Eckles (?) would have busted these folks up pretty bad as he was a county DA that believed in the laws and that people should respect the laws that govern them. I heard that at a speech he gave while I was attending school down there. He really wouldn’t show a ton of pity on the folks running the place, in my opinion.
Reliant Park and the Astrodome are on county land so the county judges are involved in ALOT of the major decisions down in Houston. Remember, this is a COUNTY judge, not a city DA. It used to be a real “old boys” network down there.
We’ll see how it unfolds but I don’t think this will be as easy as Dallas.

This game was not near Reliant Park/Astrodome. It’s a weird kind of deal how this one turned out.

Lots of bad reporting on this one. I guess that’s what happens when you get an “exclusive.”

DanM-sounds like you have alot of issues with Channel 11’s exclusive of the story not the story itself. Maybe your blogging should go somewhere else like to the Channel 13 site…get a life

Ms. Denise, I don’t know why but I am so attracted to you right now.

I am so happy to see that our Houston dollars are going to fight the poker room “crimeâ€! I have personally been held up twice in Houston, once at gunpoint and once by having Clorox thrown in my eyes and wonder why a few card players now takes precedence over catching these types of violent criminals. Houston is currently the number one city in the nation for homicides and as a nightly poker player I have yet to witness a homicide in a poker room - even if someone sucks out on the river. Furthermore - since when has a 1-2 hold-em game been considered “high stakesâ€? Use some common sense people and don’t let a piss-poor, bored “investigative†reporter try to sensationalize this!

I played there many times and was supposed to be there that night. I was running late so I did not go. Funny thing is, the glass door they showed (that the broke down) was not even locked! There were two more doors inside that were locked. It was a nice place and I hate to see it go.
