He’s there right now … in Clark County City of Las Vegas Detention Center, charged with DUI, driving more than 21 mph over the speed limit, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

CORRECTION: City of Las Vegas Detention Center, not Clark County. The city booking unit is a much drearier place — it’s where they take locals to be charged with misdemeanors, while the fancy new CCDC is for tourists and alleged felons.

A typical stay-time in this joint is usually about 13 hours (I think they legally have to keep you for 12 to sober up) … so not knowing what time Layne’s Drawing Party festivities ended, it’s hard to speculate on whether or not he was involved in an accident that required medical treatment. When he does get let out, the unit he’s in doesn’t allow direct releases into the industrial North Las Vegas neighborhood … so you don’t just walk out the door. They take a van-load of inmates downtown and drop them off right outside the Golden Nugget.

UPDATE: Flack has been released. Neverwin Poker confrms.

    I really don’t understand what’s so funny about the Neverwin guys posing as Russ Hamilton, because the cop clearly doesn’t care one way or the other.

    I don’t know how many people watched Pokerroad as they were recording the show, but Gavin Smith was really defensive about reporting Layne Flack’s situation (which I can understand, to a point, it was just noted on the broadcast that Layne was in a legal situation). Would this really have been breaking news if this was a random Thursday morning arrest of a well-known poker player?

    The fact that said well-known poker player was arrested before taking part in a nationally televised poker tournament (which he was invited because of his personality at the detriment of others) makes it news. Add in the fact that there was a video in the past week with his drunken hijinks makes the situation all the more disturbing as he falls off the wagon yet again.

    Oh, I’m definitely on the newsworthy bandwagon for this story!

    On a random Thursday, this is still newsworthy to the poker world, though to a much smaller extent. The fact that Flack missed out on the NBC Heads-Up Championship (and Oppenheim gets to participate) makes it extremely newsworthy.

    Yeah, I agree. I made a very similar call — not to confirm his custody, because that was easy enough to do on the internet, but to request his mugshot. But I identified myself by my real name and operation, to which the lieutenant responded, “poker-a-who?”
