Johnny Hughes — If your friends’ only interest in the WSOP is whether or not Phil Hellmuth is in, what you’re really telling us is that it’s better for ratings/website hits that Hellmuth lasts as long as possible.

It always reminds me of the quote from Howard Stern’s movie:

“People who love Howard Stern listen to his show, on average, for an hour a day.”
“Yeah, but what about the people who hate him?”
“They listen for two hours.”

So, Phil Hellmuth is out? Good. That is the only thing concerning the World Series of Poker they care about in one of the games I play in. Friday, we agreed we all hate him, me less than most. You writers trapped in the bowels of the Rio misunderstand the groundswell of grassroots hatred for Phil Hellmuth from sea to shining sea. We in the flyover states, which is mostly Texas since it covers about a third of the area you fly over, have televisions now, indoor plumbing, rural electricity, and a universal hatred for the embarrassing way Phil Hellmuth makes poker players look.
