Here’s some interesting perspective on where poker stands on the pop-culture radar … the season finale of Jersey Shore (on MTV) drew 4.8 million viewers.

That’s more than double than the 2.1 million who tuned in to ESPN’s coverage of the November Nine, and way way way more than tuned in for the finale of 2 Months 2 Million.

It started with 1.2m viewers in early December, then the notoriety of the show, and their exposure on other mainstream media outlets helped get them to get 4.8m viewers.

I gotta think a true poker reality show — one that’s out of the featured “stars” control, with all the drugs, whores, and financial desperation — could be a real hit, though it probably would be “bad for poker”.

I spent my teen years on the Jersey shore, Wildwood, Sea Isle, Ocean City, Long Beach Island, and many other days and nights in A.C. of course, yet I have not seen one minute of Jersey Shore and don’t plan on it.

I read they are moving it to a warmer climate for their next season. How typical.
