Team Poker Isn’t Dead

Just because ~~my poker telecasting career~~ the PokerBowl seems to have fizzled under a cloud of overt mishandlement (like the video’s gone and everything), don’t think the concept of organized semi-collusion has been simply tried and dismissed. A different operation — Dream Team Poker — pulled off a successful invitational at the Hard Rock in November, and sure enough, as is always the case with these team poker events … everyone had a great funky-slightly-different-poker time. And the winners (Bluff publisher Eric Morris, editor Matt Parvis, and tournament ringer ZeeJustin) actually got paid — $39k divvied up accordingly.

Dream Team Poker 2 is ready to go — Mar 27-29 at Caesar’s — and this one will be an open event … so any threesome with $1,650 ($500+50 per person) can get in on the action. Because the buy-in is both big enough and low enough, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this be something of a good-ole-fashioned pro-am event … especially if some of the pros who have been buying into similarly priced Venetian Deep Stacks lately feel they have an edge because they’ve played in a couple of these team tournaments already.

Tao of Pokerati: Almost in the Money

Poker archaeologists recently unearthed this episode of Tao of Pokerati, an ancient recording that carbon-dates back to Day 3 of the main event of the 2008 WSOP. In it, Dr. Pauly and I survey the tournament remains after the slaughter of 6,111 players and speculate on what human life is like so close to the money bubble. Ah, yes, it was a fascinating era — one that witnessed the death of Eric Morris and the survival of Ignacious Rex; a time where players Pauly identifies as “Average Joes” heavily outnumbered “unknown” pros like Pat Poels who knew all too well that further bloodshed and eventual extinction was all but inevitable.

Feeling Sorry for Poker

I’ve been away from Pokerati for so long I thought Dan might have removed me as an author. Yet, I managed to login without any trouble and once inside it was like getting back on a bike. I’ve been busy at my other jobs…motherhood, wife, mistress of the house, managing my other blogs and restraining orders against stalkers. And really, I just needed a break from the poker world. But then again, don’t we all need that sometimes? So, I’m sorry.

And speaking of sorry and poker, on Wednesdays you can join the Bluff Poker League at Carbon Poker for a chance to win a 2008 WSOP seat. Eric Morris, publisher of Bluff Magazine, told me today that he plays on Carbon Poker when he’s not busy playing Sorry! or Chutes and Ladders.
