More Sam’s Game

‘Nother Sam’s Game teaser … OK, gotta say, I’m kinda likin’ the show — at least in short, few-minute blips. Though I’ve hardly even seen any hands, I have totally dug the ones I have seen. Is it at all possible that lowering the stakes and adding in more profanity, smoke, and hooker references could ever pose a threat to High Stakes Poker’s televised hold’em supremacy?

Watch High Stakes Poker Season 5, Episode 11 here

I’m sure many people missed last night’s High Stakes Poker episode on GSN to watch Annie Duke get slowrolled by Donald Trump. The show featured the debut of the day 1 lineup with a few new faces so check it out below:

Watch High Stakes Poker Episode 10 here

Sorry for the slacking off on posting these GSN episodes from Youtube, but I’ve been busy with stuff. This week’s episode is the last of the day 2 lineup, as some new faces will join the established players seen on the first 10 episodes finish the season 5 run.

RE: Celebrity Apprentice Sunday / Annie Duke on Ellen Show

Funny … I just went to GSN’s YouTube page to watch the last couple episodes of High Stakes Poker. Usually I’ve been watching them this season when Mathers posts them here on Pokerati … but hey, I understand he’s a busy guy! And this is the page he’s been getting them from anyway.

So anyhow, I was hoping to find Season 5, Episodes 8 and 9 of HSP … because I’ve been missing the show during its regular air time on GSN, opting instead to watch Celebrity Apprentice. However, not only are these episodes not up yet, but here’s the video that greeted me when I went to GSN’s YouTube page (previously dedicated to HSP) hoping to catch up on what I’ve been missing while following Annie Duke on NBC:

LOL.

UPDATE: Found High Stakes Poker, Season 5 Episode 8 here.

Watch High Stakes Poker Episode 8 here

For a brief time, next week’s episode of HSP was available on GSN’s Youtube channel. However, that’s been taken down to recirculate elsewhere on the darker corners of the Internet until it actually airs on GSN. Now that’s been rectified, here’s Sunday’s episode:

What High Stakes Poker Season 5 – Episode 7 Here

This week it’s a new lineup of players on High Stakes Poker, as the Day 2 taping series of shows begins with Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Sam Simon, Nick Cassavettes, Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius, Howard Lederer and Joe Hachem trying to take each other’s money. Again, this week’s show was put up on Youtube by GSN in 3 parts, and appears to be missing a segment as it’s shorter than previous weeks.

GSN dawdled quite a bit this week in putting up episode 3 of High Stakes Poker on Youtube, but better late than never I say.

Watch HSP Season 5 debut now

GSN’s Youtube account (GSNVideos) put up the first episode of season 5 of High Stakes Poker on Youtube on Friday. For those that don’t want to wait for it to appear on some other site, or watch a crappy stream of someone sticking a webcam in front of the TV, you can watch it here:

RE: Primetime Poker Poll

Though extremely unscientific and, depending on when you’re reading this, possibly incomplete, an early look at current poll results asking what engaged, TV-watching Pokeratizens are planning to Tivo suggests something … about poker viewership:

vote percentage/show

53 / High Stakes Poker
19 / WSOP Europe
15 / Other (non-poker)
10 / Celebrity Apprentice
3 / WPT

Will be interesting to see how the shows compare in the ratings … and perhaps even more telling, for shows just getting their season start will be what the ratings are for week 2.

RE: Busy Day for Poker on TV

Primetime poker poll

As Kevin points out, there’s a lot of poker TV Sunday today, March 1 … some of it competing against each other. Should be a telling day for ratings! With that in mind, and having taken a look at just how much poker is on TV that evening — seriously, flippers will be stumbling across it everywhere — I’ve put up a new poll earlier this week to see what you’re most interested in watching.

Here’s the breakdown of your pokery viewing options (all times Eastern/Pacific, new episodes in bold):

6 pm
ESPN2 – WSOP Europe
GSN – High Stakes Poker

7 pm
ESPN2 – WSOP Europe
GSN – High Stakes Poker

8 pm
ESPN2 – WSOP Europe
GSN – High Stakes Poker

9pm
NBC – Celebrity Apprentice
ESPN2 – WSOP Europe
GSN – High Stakes Poker

10 pm
NBC – Celebrity Apprentice
ESPN2 – WSOP Europe

GSN – World Poker Tour

11 pm
ESPN2 – WSOP Europe
GSN – World Poker Tour
FSN – World Poker Tour

12 midnight
GSN – High Stakes Poker

1 am
GSN – World Poker Tour

2 am
GSN – World Poker Tour

This doesn’t even take into account competition from new episodes of The Simpsons, King of the Hill, whatever that Brothers & Sisters show is, Saturday Night Live Short Films, and The Amazing Race, not to mention UFC Unleashed, reruns of From G’s to Gents, and a CNBC documentary called “House of Cards”, which really isn’t about poker despite the name.

SIDENOTE: Non-poker TV people are wondering if Season 2 of Celebrity Apprentice will be a flop, in part because of (or despite) Donald Trump’s casino empire going belly up. You realize there might be something to that when shares of his casino company (which bailed on a 5-year TV deal to sponsor the US Poker Championship a couple years ago, and was de-listed from NASDAQ this past week ) were trading for way less than shares of the WPT. Yikes!
