I’m of course looking forward to whatever Dream Team Poker’s next event is … and plausibly defending Team Tao of Pokerati’s title. Seriously, having played in three Dream Team tourneys now (winning one), and taken part as either a player or analyst (?) in a few other team-concept no-limit hold’em freezeouts, I have some genuine strategy thoughts on this format … and fugk, just as much authority on it as Matt Parvis or Jamie Gold.

Anyhow, check out their rockin’ new promotional vid from the WSOP team tournament … they’ve got a few different musical varieties on their site and YouTube, but I liked this one best:

Starring Kenna James … with splash appearances by Lacey Jones, Liz Lieu, Jerry Yang, Dennis Phillips, Susie Isaacs, Alex Outhred, Barry Greenstein, David Williams, Evelyn Ng, Gavin Smith, Bryan Micon, Pam Brunson, Jose Canseco, et al.

Recapping the first half of Wednesday’s WSOP:

Lisandro Wins Bracelet #3, Wins Stud Triple Crown

Jeff Lisandro becomes the first player to win three bracelets in one WSOP after Chris Moneymaker initiated the poker boom in 2003, takes down the $2,500 Razz event, good for $188,370. Lisandro has won all three of his bracelets in stud events in each of the three disciplines of stud (Stud high, Stud Hi/Lo and Razz). Lisandro held the chip lead at the beginning of the day and was never seriously threatened. Michael Craig finished in 2nd, good for $116,405. Other notable finishes: Kenna James (6th), Al “Sugar Bear” Barbieri (10th), Ville Wahlbeck (12th) and Nikolay Evdakov (13th).

Seniors Six-Pack

Half a dozen players remain in the $1,000 Seniors NL Holdem World Championship, led by Scott Buller with over 2 million in chips. Michael Morusty, Charles Simon, Dan DeLatorre, Michael Davis and Barry Bounds make up the remaining players.

Thang Flung From Omaha-8

The $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better has 70 players remaining, only 45 get paid. The unofficial chip leader is Frankie O’Dell (109,000), followed by day 1 chip leader Josh Schlien (85,000), Pat Poels (71,500), Marsha Waggoner (54,000), Mike Matusow (38,000), and Max Pescatori (28,000) among the familiar faces. Thang Luu unfortunately was eliminated before the dinner break earlier today.

Brummelhuis Bringing It in Pot-Limit

The $10,000 Pot-Limit Holdem World Championship is down to 35 players, only 27 get to cash with day 1 chip leader Michiel Brummelhuis remaining chip leader (570,000). Isaac Haxton (450,000), Eric Baldwin (430,000), Darryll Fish (310,000), Vanessa Rousso (280,000), Sam Simon (173,000), and Eugene Todd (165,000) are among the remaining.

 Mixed Holdem Brings Mixed Blessings

The $2,500 Mixed Holdem event drew a field of 527 players, of which just 184 remain. The unofficial chip leader is David Baker (unknown if that’s the one from Michigan or Texas) at 73,000. Eli Elezra (51,000), Marc Naalden (46,000) and Jean-Robert Bellande (42,000) are some well known folks with chips.

More updates during the evening over at www.wsop.com and Pokerati for more Lisandro stuff and other commentary about all things WSOP.

Missed the first week due to a PokerStars blog commitment and blew my second chance last weekend. Though I wasn’t the first one out of the PokerListings Run-Good Challenge v2 on PokerStars, I didn’t last long, as Liz Lieu took a good number of my chips, and Benjo finished the job. I asked them both to do something positive with those chips, and Benjo went on to win the thing.

Today is my last chance to qualify for the final tournament next weekend. There are three spots open, and I’m going to have to run goooood to make it there. <s>I am donkey, hear me hee-haw.</s> Wish me luck!

UPDATE: Out in 11th place. No finals for me (obv). Pokerati mate Dan put the biggest dent in my stack when he moved in with pocket sixes on a 7-4-3 board, and I called with pocket tens. Of course, the 5 hit on the turn, and I was hurtin’. It wasn’t long before I had to move with K-10 for my last few chips, and Short-Stacked Shamus took me out.

Thanks to the PokerListings guys for a fun challenge!

We love the guys at PokerListings more and more … not only do they bowl well and generally produce quality poker content, but also, they get it: They can buy a blogger’s affection by throwing freerolls with quality cash prizes at stake. Brilliant, as the British would say.

In the first go-round of the Run Good Challenge, the guys hosting the event dominated. Oops, not very hospitable. But they rolled the money over and then the ladies started winning, including Change100′s victory in the Grand Final. But in event #1 of Run Good Challenge 2: Electric Boogaloo, the one only semi-employed male in the field with firsthand memories of Bobby Riggs losing to Billie Jean King took it down — kudos to Dr. Tim for making a stand on behalf of chubby white bald men who, frankly, needed the inspiration to know, Yes We Can!

The Shrink won $600 for his Sunday-morning skills, fending off attacks from his writing partner Amy Calistri ($300) and longtime Pokerati fave Michele Lewis ($100).

California Jen, Liz Lieu, and Lacey Jones apparently missed the starting bell, but yours truly woke up to his PokerStars alarm this time — seriously, you get a rousing beep on the first hand if you register for the tourney pre-sleep and leave Stars running overnight — but couldn’t get his head fully in the game before pushing all-in with his Q3o vs. the eventual winner’s Q8s (on a flop of Q-8-x) … damn, finished 11th out of 14, which seems about right for how I played almost into Level 2.

Today’s attendance at day 1c of the Main Event was a vast improvement over the past two days, as 1,928 laid their money down to participate in the Main Event. Rumors are circulating that Sunday will have a complete sellout of 2,700 which would take them near the 7,000 figure that seemed improbable on Thursday. Among those whose dream is already over, such notables as: Huck Seed, Larry Flynt, Sean Buchanan, Gavin Griffin, Mimi Tran, Justin Bonomo, David Chiu, Bart Hanson, and Marco Traniello.

The leader at the dinner break appears to be Michael Martin, who is just under 100,000 in chips. More familiar names near the top: Jeff Madsen, Chris Moneymaker, Mike Matusow, TJ Cloutier, and the lovely and talented Liz Lieu, Clonie Gowen, Evelyn Ng, Kara Scott, and Isabelle Mercier. More updates can be found at the WSOP update site here.

The returning horde of about 1,500 will return shortly to play two more two-hour levels, with those survivors returning to play on Wednesday, July 9.

More updates during the evening…

The $5k NL Shootout final table is down to headsup. The current chip leader winner is Phil “The Chairman” Tom. His son, Scott, was the founder of Absolute Poker, and we know how that turned out. (Readers may want to insert their own superuser jokes here). Greg “FBT” Mueller is in a close finished 2nd, while Leo Wolpert was recently eliminated in 3rd.

The $1,500 Limit Holdem final table is currently underway. Erick Lindgren finished on the FT bubble in 10th, but here’s the lineup when they started at the final 9:

1. Vinny Vinh
2. Teddy ‘Iceman’ Monroe
3. Markus Golser
4. Ali Eslami
5. Brendan Taylor
6. Jimmy Shultz
7. Chung Law (9th place)
8. Christoph Niesert (8th place)
9. Zac Fellows

In tournaments that are on Day 2, both the $2,500 NL and $10,000 7 Card Stud World Championship have just returned from their dinner breaks. The NL event has 39 remaining, with Theo Tran, Vanessa Selbst, and Liz Lieu among those remaining. The Stud event is down to 34, only 16 will get paid. Shannon Elizabeth made a surprisingly deep run, busting to Phil Ivey with about 45 left. Among the leaders include high-stakes regulars David Benyamine, David Oppenheim, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu among those still in the field.

The $1,000 Ladies World Championship drew a field of 1,190 (with at least one male barred from playing, and maybe one that may have sneaked in. Just over 200 return from the dinner break, among the familiar names in the field include former Ladies’ winner Mary Jones, Linda Johnson, WPT Ladies’ Champion Nancy Todd Tyner and WPT winner Van Nguyen.

The $2,000 Omaha 8 tournament started at 5pm, unfortunately early leader Tom Schneider couldn’t hold his early lead, recently eliminated in level 4. The current leader is Hoyt Corkins, with Allen Kessler, Dutch Boyd, and Michael Mizrachi currently in the top 10.

More from me tomorrow…
