LAS VEGAS–Just learned from listening to Chris’ podcast that Bellagio has instituted a new rule — 20 minute penalty for anyone who uses a cell phone (or Blackberry, or Treo, or Blackjack, or iPhone) at the table … whether they are in the hand or not.

It’s about time. People using electronic devices slow down the game. I’m not worried about cheating. What I dislike is when it is someone’s action and they are on the phone or just got off and take time to recreaste the action in front of him.

I used to play in St. Louis where they outlawed cell phones because a bookie was taking bets on his cell at the table. This could have cost them their license. The game went faster after they outlawed cells.

Jokingly: Michele, I’m sorry, did you say something?

Semi-seriously: I remember hearing there was some sort of cell phone ban at the poker tables. But i did not remember hearing that it as a very specific rule instituted in a current $10k Bellagio tournament that resulted in 20-minute penalties.
