Good Pokery Times, I Mean Tunes

The band is called Atmosphere. Underground hip-hop from Minneapolis. The album is Strictly Leakage. No joke. And the very pokery mixed-race rap song is “What They Sitting For” (not to be confused with Ice Cube’s “What They Hittin’ Foe”):

Whoa, dude, it speaks to me, man … I never realized AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted was about holding trip-kings.

All I’ll say is that the song isn’t completely awful. But it sounds too much like he’s bitin’ Cube, and that ain’t cool.

I know alot of you guys probably don’t follow hip-hop too much, but atmosphere is no longer ‘underground’. You can catch his videos on On Demand, see his interviews with MTV, and hes in a bunch of magazines. He lost his underground status years ago.

On the other hand, if you are into some actual underground hip-hop you might want to check out Aesop Rock, Sole, Eyedea, El-P, or pretty much anyone on Anticon Records or Definitive Jux Records. Oh, Peanuts & Corn Records too.

I will pass this on to my chief instructor on contempo music — http://www.myspace.com/alex0069.

Thanks for the info though. I thought Atmosphere was a band, not a dude. Is he the white guy or the black guy?

Atmosphere is the Group. Made up of two individuals: “Slug” and “Ant”. One of the pioneers of underground hip hop for over 10 years. Although they have videos and a strong cultural following, they stay true to their underground ways, and have never “sold out.”
In this day and age everybody has videos… Including Aesop Rock and Eyedea.
