To go along with Jen’s post the other day: It would be nice if men would notice a woman among them and curtail their crude discussions @ table.

While this may be gentlemanly, I don’t think it would be right to make that a rule. Would I have a right to say I think a bunch of conservatives at the table should curtail their stupid discussions?
I mean they should … but I shouldn’t have any recourse to limit their speech beyond not playing with them again. Right?

No one said anything about it being a “rule”. Just courteous. :O)

I get more crude when women are at the table. They usually are easier to shock than the guys.

If we’re just talking common courtesy, let’s poo-poo all men who lack Texas etiquette then. I am always delightfully amazed by women who accept guys who don’t open car doors for them.
seriously, i expect crass at the poker table … and at bunko.

Yeah, I’m not referring to the crudeness for shock factor, I actually get a kick out of that sometimes. I’m talking about just behavior because they don’t realize a lady is at the table, and then maybe, if we’re lucky, it will occur to them and they might have the decency to apologize/blush.
There’s a crudeness because one doesn’t know any better, and a crudeness to get a rise out of something. The latter is somewhat acceptable. And usually humorous.
