March 1: A busy day for poker on TV

by , Feb 23, 2009 | 10:26 am

This coming Sunday will be one of the busiest days for watching poker on TV in quite some time. Besides the WPT episode that may air in your area on FSN, High Stakes Poker begins season 5 on GSN at 9pm (preview available below). At the same time, NBC debuts Celebrity Apprentice with Annie Duke. At 10pm, ESPN2 airs the final table of the World Series of Poker Europe.

AND a 2-hour Brothers & Sisters episode is on that night. My DVR might explode.

Is the WPT showing the Atlantic City episode by any chance? Knowing that Vivek Rajkumar won another event (was it the heads-up?) at the LAPC makes me really want to watch him play that WPT final table.

In fact, I think it’s the first time in years that I’ve really cared to see how a certain player won a WPT event.

That Vivek episode already aired. Maybe they’ll do repeats…

Go to Pokertube.com, you’ll be able to find all of this year’s WPT episodes there.

Edit: Start here for the Borgata event.

Ah, but see, there’s the point. I didn’t care til I learned something new about him from other media sources (The Poker Beat, in this case).

I’m not sure I care enough to spend my valuable internet time watching it, but will totally check it out next time it’s on TV.

It probably says something, too, that I don’t have a “Season Pass” set for the WPT on Tivo. I swear I’m not trying to hate, but it’s just a matter of fact statement that at least a few people out there find soccer and From G’s to Gents more compelling and worth an inkling of effort to watch.

Smothers, Brothers, Misters, Sisters. There is a new episode of the “Girls Next Door” where the current gaggle of girls dumps poor olde Uncle Hef and I assume the new nympettes are introduced.

Shrink, is there something negative in the NorCal air? Brothers & Sisters is a good show with amazing actors. To compare it to “Girls Next Door” is just…well…silly.

In the realm of one-dimensional characters who never learn and never grow…. It’s a tie!

see, now you’re giving away the secret as to why WPT isn’t as good as HSP, or even the WSOP for that matter.

  10. DanM
    says:

BTW, seriously, what will you be watching … Annie Duke or season premiere of HSP?

I’ll probably be flipping, but erring on the side of The Apprentice knowing I’ll be able to Tivo an HSP rerun.

I will err on the side on not watching any program that Donald Trump has invented. I mean why not bring back celebrity poker or watch Howie Mandel and the cleavage with briefcases.

I do watch that show every once in a while. I like to see how few people have a real understanding of pot odds.
