Watch High Stakes Poker Season 5, Episode 4 here
by Kevin Mathers, Mar 22, 2009 | 7:05 pm
Just mere moments after it just aired, GSN puts up this week’s episode on Youtube right away for you to enjoy. Barry Greenstein drops a new phrase on the GSN viewers early in the show.

Dude, I totally forgot it was Sunday! (Was watching Return of the Jedi earlier on Spike.)
So this is cool … I can watch HSP now, and be done with it before Celebrity Apprentice!
OK, sorry for sounding almost HSP-shill giddy, but I am really curious to see the pluses and minuses of this sort of free content, as it seems to be a pretty hot topic right now in the non-poker media with all the dying newspapers and such … and am happy to get to watch a poker show that I otherwise wouldn’t have seen for probably a week if you didn’t post it here.

8:50ish … how deer-in-the-headlights does dwan look with those aces?

The thing that surprises me is that I’d think GSN may want to throw in a commercial or two in the Youtube video to monetize this a bit.
Another benefit of this is that I don’t have to delete numerous posts from people asking when the episode will be online, or post a link to torrent sites, or wanting to see a stream. I mentioned how bad the stream I watched for episode 1, while GSN was putting up the episode while it debut.
Now if they can really get a better commitment out of GSN so it’s not another year before season 6.

Math is idiotic … but I think they shoulda gone with the simpler “Math is stupid” … makes a better t-shirt.

I particularly like that there are no commercials in it … makes it even better than Tivo. But can understand if there eventually would be. Saw signs of that in the fish-tank pimpage at the end … and clearly our views here are giving value to Golden Nugget and Spade Club.
So great episode … one of the reasons I think this show has real staying power is because each season can have a new crew of “who’s hot” players. There’s clearly such a difference between introducing us to people such as Dwan or Sahamies in a $20k event like Poker After Dark or the NHUPC and seeing them really put to the test here.

Greenstein is such a donk now, it’s pretty sad. Dwan is by far the best player at the table; no one to match him so far in this season, not even close. It’d be a lot more interesting with Ivey and Antonius to keep him company and stop him from running the table over completely. I wonder what his edge is at this table…… 20BB/100? more?

worst comment in history; fallacious on 3 accounts
1- Greenstein isn’t a donk, Dwan is a donk, thats why he called with top pair
2- Dwan is the best player? really? better than Doyle, Negraneau, Elezra, and the recent 2008 WSOP Main event winner Eastgate? hes really better than all of those players at the ripe age of 21?
3- He’s not running over the table, he’s probly one of the bigger cash losers at the table
in conclusion, you make me sick. go back to your penny tables on pokerstars, you ape.

WOW ur an idiot
1- Dwan got Greenstein to put 280bb with J9, obv ur the donk
2- Pretty sure the fact he is 21 doesnt matter since he has put more hands in online than they have played live. But yes, he is playing better than the nits Doyle and Negraneau, and the second biggest high stakes fish behind only Guy.
3- Ummmmm. he is only a loser from getting sucked out on. Results oriented much!
in conclusion, ur an idiot, so go back to your play money tables on party.

just for the record, Doyle has won something like 14 out of 14 sessions on HSP.

Funny, I wondered the same thing … clearly the television value of embeddable HQ media is in that either Greenstein or Dwan is a moron.

Young Money,
you’re obviously a complete retard. Let’s see why…
A pair of aces on a J high board is, I’m afraid, not “top pair” but actually an “overpair”.
As someone else mentioned, Greenstein is the one who effectively put his whole stack in the middle with top pair and a 9 kicker, making him, at that point, a complete donk. That’s also the reason he looks so dejected just after sucking out. He’s really embarrassed at having sucked out 500k+ after a horrible play and is seriously comtemplating if he should even keep playing at that table the way he’s going. If you check his blog, he’s actually very straight forward about the fact that he played like shit during that entire season of HSP.
Secondly, if you knew anything about poker, you’d know that Dwan is without a doubt one of the best HE cash game players in the world and recognized as such by everyone at that table and far beyond. There’s a reason why only Antonius and Ivey have taken him up on his HU challenge. You think Doyle doesn’t have the BR to afford that challenge and is not tempted by 1.5 million to 500k? Or Daniel? They would never even dream of playing him HU, not 4 tables, not 1 table. Your point about age is completely stupid as well. Stu Ungar was an amazing player in his early twenties in a matter of months after he started playing the game and no one would dare play him HU, not even the best players back then. And Elezra better than Dwan? Seriously? I’m sure you think Phil Hellmuth is the best player in the world…
So, in conclusion, as you said, do yourself a favor and don’t even go back to your penny stake tables until you know the difference between top pair and an overpair, just keep playing play-money games and stop posting over-aggressive replies about how people make you sick when you clearly have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about and just made a complete ass of yourself. Fucking idiot…

woops…and crew,
it goes without saying that anybody with half decent poker knowledge immediately recognizes Young Money as a moron shooting his mouth. what i don’t understand is your need to chastize him.
are you the same simple minded people who go on tirades at the poker table any time you are sucked out on? the same ones who berate poor plays, “educating” the donks and effectively trying to teach them how clueless they really are?
i offer this to you: any real poker player with half a brain realizes that donkeys are the key to continued income streams. instead of your foolish and abusive approach, why don’t you learn to shut up and be nice, so that these donkeys can continue to spread their faulty knowledge and enjoy losing at the game of poker.
it seems you have proven yourself to belong to an even more pitiful group than Young Money.
pwned
