Mike Sexton gets lone 2009 nod for Poker Hall of Fame
by Kevin Mathers, Oct 14, 2009 | 6:11 pm
Howard Stutz over at the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Inside Gaming blog reports that Mike Sexton will be the only person to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in November. An official announcement will come from the World Series of Poker and Harrah’s Entertainment on Thursday.
Hat tip to “riverdance” on 2+2 for the link.

If I could have my ballot back, I think I just-might-maybe give Daniel Negreanu a yes vote. He’s young, sure, but not that young, especially since the 2nd place finish at WSOP-E
and appearance on Million Dollar Challenge, lol.Hindsight …

I’d like to see what the full results are to see if anyone was close to being elected. Also, isn’t this announcement a bit early, I thought it would be done closer to November.

Sexton definitely deserves it — he was the only one that people said, yes, of course, yes to … but likewise, I’m curious to know who may or may not have been close calls.
I’m also gettin’ real sick of others trying to cut in on the business of breaking news before they get a press release! I got my eye on this Stutz guy …

Mike deserves this as much as anyone. I think some people forget how long he has played the game with the greats. He was around when Unger was on top.

great point, chris. when i first met/interviewed him in 2006, all my questions to him were about poker business. (partypoker, wpt, etc.) He later expressed to me that he was surprised (and slightly disappointed?) that i didn’t think of him as a player first and businessman second.

According to an article in CardPlayer, the results aren’t going to be made public. Also, Seth Palansky said that several voters didn’t use all 3 votes.

Yeah, I tried to get the full results from HOF officials — you know, figuring they must be having an off day if they let it slip to the RJ — but no dice.
I gave only two yes votes. Sexton and one other guy.

The Commish mentioned that the “official” announcement had been released, but I don’t see it on the WSOP.com site.
