Meet Isildur1

Mystery whale intends to file complaint over losing session

by , Dec 23, 2009 | 12:42 pm

A lot of people in the poker industry claim they know who Isildur1 is. I don’t buy any of it (yet) … because when you trace back who said what and how they knew who made who on 2+2, you realize there’s a 50-50 shot that the historic player on Full Tilt was probably in a movie with Kevin Bacon.

But PokerNews ed-honcho Matt Parvis did speak with a heavily accented Isildur1 on the phone recently, for a limited two-part interview:

In Part 1 they address the controversial session against Cardrunners Pro Brian Hastings. And though hardly seeming upset, Isildur does say he intends to file a complaint against presumed datamining violations.

In Part 2 Isildur reveals that he had been playing $200/$400 NL on different sites before coming to Full Tilt in October; he isn’t the other mysterious Swedish nosebleeder Martonas (“Martonas is honestly my enemy in poker”); he learned to play PLO only 8 months ago; durrr is good, Ivey tough; and yes, he’ll be back.

Tony G isn’t the typical NVGtard, and he’s been saying it’s Viktor Blom all along. Isildur’s lack of bankroll management, not studying hand histories, playing his “worst” game for multiple tables of 500/1k, and lack of discipline means this was bound to happen.

Isildur had a -3m day back in November, losing mostly to Antonius and Ivey. He then ran up his “last” $50,000 into over $1.6m, then running that up even further before he ran into Hastings and company. If he’s so interested in filing a complaint like he mentions in part 1, why is he back playing on FTP, from $50,000 he was staked from a friend?

I don’t think he’s THAT interested … but hey, if a rule’s a rule. If a player with a superior hand to me makes a mistake and mucks prematurely, awarding me the pot, I’m not re-shipping the pot.

I would never give this opinion on 4 because it would be shouted down. You don’t here him complaining about the 2 million he won off of Townsend who is supposedly the one that was cheating him. To say that you don’t look at HH’s is just a brag, he should have, other people did. To say that they weren’t available to him is wrong, they obviously were. He didn’t lose because people had data on him, he lost because he ran against someone uber-hot and he was on tilt. He had many other sessions where he went on tilt and came out unscathed.

He and Durrrr have the same exact problem, they don’t know win to quit. You can say what you want about loss limits but I don’t think any of these guys have a monster edge over one another unless one gets his nose opened. If your nose is open, you should leave, plain and simple.

If I lost 4 million though I am sure I would like to whine it back too.

For Dan, in this instance FTP created an unenforceable rule (remember my steroid analogy) he had the same information available to him that those guys did. FTP should be blamed for not protecting him and creating a rule that would put players at a disadvantage. Even in the scenario that I have presented with non-observable tables do you really think he wouldn’t have sat with all those guys to protect his identity? Of course he would have.

Indeed, Tony G is more reliable than most, particularly considering that his news outfit got the interview. So I won’t be shocked if Blom (whoever that is) is who it turns out to be … but I wouldn’t bet any money on it either.

Chances are he is just another “flavor of the month”. Out of a thousand people taking chances, a few are bound to be lucky. Nothing beats consistency long term. Let’s see what he does in the years to come.
