Strip Casinos See Revenue Bump

by , Jul 17, 2013 | 6:53 am

What seemed like a positive sign — a 6.39 percent increase in Strip gaming revenues during May — was downplayed by Wall Street Thursday.

After delving deep into the results, several analysts termed the month a disappointment.

“This is a decent headline number for the Strip, in our view, but driven by a mostly favorable table game hold results versus a year ago, and not volumes,” JP Morgan gaming analyst Joe Greff told investors.

Nevada gaming revenues grew 1.37 percent in May, to $897.2 million, the Gaming Control Board said Thursday. The increase followed a flat revenue month in April and two straight monthly increases in February and March.

On the Strip, gaming revenues hit $505.4 million.

The Next Generation of International Megaclub?

by , Mar 26, 2013 | 1:00 pm

HakkasanOne of the Strip’s most expensive nightclub projects will debut next month.

Angel Management Group announced the opening schedule Tuesday for the Hakkasan Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.

The $100 million construction project removed the location of Studio 54 at the front of the hotel-casino for the development of a five-level restaurant and nightclub, that will offer indoor and outdoor views of the Strip.

The construction project expanded the space and redeveloped the front of the MGM Grand, which is owned by MGM Resorts International.

The Hakkasan nightclub portion of the facility will open April 18. The 10,000-square-foot nightclub will include different experiences and celebrity entertainment, including electronic music headliners Tiësto, Calvin Harris, deadmau5 and Steve Aoki.

Vegas Grinders: Poker Staycation

Crap. Free hotel room on the Las Vegas Strip, and I left my bathing suit at home.

The Wynn Classic wraps up, and so does Erick Lindgren’s brief flirtation with redemption. (LOL-ouch on the bubble.) Likewise, Multi Action Poker is out @AriaPoker (like we knew it would be) but Phil Ivey is in — making a not-so-regular stop to play behind his namesake glass walls. Meanwhile, as Nevadans, we begin to think about playing online again, starting with some online satellite freerolls at GoldenNuggetPoker.com … while Dave enjoys a free room at Bally’s — a nice perk for a man hoping to hit it with a bad beat jackpot!

Over @CLVPoker, Hoops and Hold’em is underway; Andrew laments that the one tournament he won has been discontinued. While there may or may not be an upside to being forcibly undefeated, seriously, how-TF do you remove a heads-up bracket tourney from a seasonal series created around March Madness?

Semi-related … can you believe it’s almost pool season?

All that and more in another jam-packed, rip-roarin’ episode of every Vegas local’s favoritisimo new podcast …
