Poker 2 Nite has returned for their 2nd season, this time they’re on Versus, as Fox Sports Net had various restrictions on what Scott Huff and Joe Sebok could actually cover on the show, especially with online poker. Joe Stapleton is no longer the head writer, replaced by the people behind Wicked Chops Poker taking over the writing.
Segment one appears below, but stayed tuned for the special Pokerati mention in segment three on page 2:
Poker2Nite inked a deal for a second season of the poker-news-talk-variety show presented by UB.net, featuring Scott Huff, Joe Stapleton, and Joe Sebok. After a start-up run on FoxSports — and seen regularly on Pokerati — season 2 will run for 12 episodes on the Versus network … Versus was formerly the Outdoor Life Network before rebranding itself as a sports and lifestyle channel in late 2008. This seems to be in line with their development of slightly non-traditional sports programming.
We’ll see how any new embedding options work, and what else may or may not change with the new channel. But glad to see the industry still able to support two semi-independent poker television news shows … the other, of course, being ESPNs The Inside Deal presented by PokerStars.
The new season begins on Wednesday, March 3, supposedly at 11 pm … though I am thinking that must be Eastern Time since the Cox Las Vegas listings say it airs at 8 pm and re-airs on Fridays at 2:30 pm. Channel 38.
And a little bubbling-under semi-related to the show … Cohost Sebok says he tried to buy out of his face-tattoo prop bet with Gavin Smith and Jeff Madsen, but they wouldn’t accept … which you know how that works … makes him the odds-on favorite to win the permanent lasts-longer bet for the LAPC main event.
Poker 2Nite crosses the halfway point of its first run of shows, and last show of 2009, with a segment with Justin Bonomo and an interview with PokerRoad Radio co-host Gavin Smith. Parts 2 and 3 appear on the following page.
The latest and greatest from Huff and Seebs as they review the WPT Five Diamond Doyle Brunson Classic, an interview with 2009 CardPlayer POY (and new addition to Team UB Eric Baldwin) and a story on several players shaving their heads in support of Thuy Doan. Parts 2 and 3 appear on the following page:
Here’s this week’s episode, with a report from the WPT Five Diamond Classic, a Mike Sexton interview, and other stuff. Per usual, parts 2 and 3 appear on the next page:
This week, featuring Phil Hellmuth in studio for an interview, a preview of the WPT Doyle Brunson Classic at the Bellagio, Chino Rheem (the defending champion) discussing a key hand with Justin Young, and other stuff. As usual, parts 2 and 3 appear on the next page:
Here’s this week’s episode, discussing the delay of the UIGEA, an interview with John Pappas of the PPA and other stuff. Parts 2 and 3 appear on the next page.
Here’s this week’s Poker 2Nite episode discussing Isildur1, a charity poker tournament hosted by Annie Duke, Brandon Cantu getting tased and an interview with Andy Bloch. Parts 2 and 3 appear on the next page:
For those who forgot to tune in Wednesday night for the debut of “Poker 2Nite” onFSN, or it didn’t air in your area, the show featuring Scott Huff, Joe Sebok, Lacey Jones and Dana Workman is now available online. Part 1 is embedded below, followed by parts 2 and 3 on the next page.
A new show launches this week on Fox Sports … Poker2Night … starring Joe Sebok and Scott Huff. I’m not sure if this few-holds-barred-poker-news concept makes The Poker Beat more of a fluffer or a clean-up man, but regardless … good on Ultimate Bet for buying time in a way that helps elevate poker to the level of other sports that have weekly news shows covering the baseball/football/soccer/foosball/whatever biz.
Wednesdays at 11 pm … time zone/cable-service-provider variance not yet clear:
Early tip on improving the show without having seen any of it: More Wolfman!
PokerRoad did an amazing tribute show to Justin Shronk, featuring Joe Sebok, Gavin Smith, Ali Nejad, Court Harrington, Scott Huff, and special guest BJ Nemeth.
If you knew Shronk, this is well worth the time. If you didn’t, it gives some insight into a life lost too early but a life well-lived and filled with friendship, respect, and love. Click here to listen to the heartfelt tribute.
On a personal note, thanks to the guys for putting together this show. Almost as difficult as feeling the loss of Shronk was hearing the heartbreak and sadness in your voices, but it is deeply appreciated.
As Kevin points out, I’m helping kick off a new podcast today in pursuit of my aspirations of becoming a talking head who mouths off smugly about things he only kinda-sorta knows about.
The Poker Beat (a Scott Huff joint) will essentially be like Meet the Press or The Sports Reporters for poker. Should be interesting. My segment will be with Scott and occasional 2008 Pokerati poster (and WPT tournament reporter) BJ Nemeth.
Click here to listen live. Eventually the folks at PokerRoad will have it up in podcast form, too, so you can listen at your convenience and/or sync with iTunes. But today is our first go, so everything’s new and rolling out as we go along. But it should be more professional than my previous podcast endeavors — like we have an outline and everything!
Pokerati’s own Dan Michalski and an all-star cast of poker media will appear on the premier episode of “The Poker Beat” with Scott Huff at 1pm PT Thursday afternoon over at PokerRoad.
The lineup:
John Caldwell (formerly of Pokernews)
Gary Wise of ESPN and WisehandPoker.com
Matt Parvis of Bluff Magazine
Dan Michalski of Pokerati.com
BJ Nemeth of World Poker Tour
and Joe Stapleton of PokerRoad.com with some closing thoughts.
Topics will include the Obama and the UIGEA, the Durrr Challenge, and the L.A. Poker Classic.
Big Poker Sundays is one of the PokerRoad radio shows that hits the interweb regularly and courtesy of the Joe Sebok/Barry Greenstein start-up. BPS, as it’s called, features the comedic duo of Scott Huff and Haralabos Voulgaris. While they’re both hilarious, it is Voulgaris’ deadpan sense of humor that leaves me in tears almost every time. His kind of wit is unique – a little David Niven-ish.
Since PokerRoad is doing quite a few things live from the 2008 World Series of Poker, BPS did their first live show of the summer this morning from 11am to noon in the hallway just outside the Amazon Room. I thought it might be fun to watch, which it was, but work called halfway through and I had to leave. In the meantime, the show had drawn quite the crowd of fans who were happy to stand around and listen to the two radio superstars live.
Not sure how comfortable the two were with everyone watching them do nothing but talk, but they were up for it. Congrats on your live BPS, Bob & Huff. Laughs are always appreciated!
