The Ultimate Cooler: Mariano Flops a Straight Flush on the HCL

We’ve seen a fair share of sick hands on the Hustler Casino Live stream, but this hand between Mariano and Andy must be very near the top of the list.

Flopping a nut flush is a dream in a deep-stacked cash game, especially when the board runs favorably, without pairs. However, on a rare occasion, that dream turns into a nightmare, as your opponent flips over that one unlikely hand that had you drawing dead from the get-go.

The game is $100/$200 ($200 big blind ante), and Mariano has just shy of $300,000 in front of him. Unfortunately for him, Andy has even more.

Mariano opens the betting action before the flop, making it $500 to go with K10. Charles makes it $2,000 from the button, and then Andy goes for a 4-bet bluff, making it $9,000 with A4. Both players make the call, so the pot is $27,300 and the stage is set.

Fireworks About to Go Off

The flop comes QJ9, giving Andy the nut flush, but Mariano has the absolute best hand that he can’t lose with – the King-high straight flush. With two players thinking they have the nuts and Charles missing completely, the action checks around.

The turn brings an inconsequential 3, and Andy check once again, thinking he is trapping (and rightfully so). Mariano makes a small bet of $8,000, hoping he can get some money in the middle.

Charles naturally forfeits his claims to this pot. The action is back to Andy, who makes it $35,000. It’s music to Mariano’s ears, as he knows that it is impossible for him to lose this pot. The only question is how big it will get. He weighs his options and makes the call, and there is now $97k in the middle.

The river is a 6, putting four-to-a-flush on the board. This is not Andy’s favorite card, but only because he’s probably thinking it’ll be hard to get paid. So, he opts for an overbet of $120,000 hoping to confuse his opponent.

Mariano is not confused, though, as he has the absolute goods, so he quickly moves all-in for the total of $257,000. Andy quickly double-checks his hand and tosses in the calling chips, only to see the bad news and the pot of over $600,000 shipped the wrong direction!
