The Global Online Poker Championship (GOPC) that kicked off on August 23 on CoinPoker has reached its halfway mark, and, as things stand right now, the series is on pace to blow its original $50,000,000 guarantee out of the water.
Over the course of the first two weeks, the Championship paid just over $30,000,000 in prizes, already covering 60% of the total guarantee, and there is still some big action ahead.
The series continues until September 28, so there is plenty of time to get involved. And if you’re wondering if you should, here’s a quick breakdown of the first half of the GOPC to give you an idea of what’s been happening over at CoinPoker.
Big Action & Crushed Guarantees
Over the first couple of weeks, the Global Online Poker Championship saw more than 2,500 tournaments play out. This included 932 GOPC events, 1,400 satellites, and 211 various day 1 flights.
Even more impressive was the number of entries. In total, there were over 804,000 individual entries generated by 31,373 unique players. These players hailed from 162 different countries worldwide.
There was just under $23 million in guarantees spread across these 900+ events, but by the time it was all said and done, the series dished out $29 million in prizes, surpassing the total guarantee by $6.1 million.
All of these numbers added together show that CoinPoker has managed to create an online series that caters to a very wide audience. Bringing out an excellent spread of buy-ins and ensuring tournament start times fit different time zones, the Global Online Poker Championship is bringing players in huge numbers.
Grinders Will Be Grinders
With the first half of the series in the books, it is no surprise that we already have some names standing out from the rest.
The player playing under the alias ‘Yafish’ (believed to be Russia’s Dmitrii Semenov) put in some proper volume, playing 231 events during the second week of the series. During that run, he got 94 cashes, made 12 final tables, and captured three titles.
Not surprisingly, this led to ‘Yafish’ also winning the weekly Podium Race with 42 points.
‘Yafish’ is well known in the CoinPoker tournament community and he’s had some impressive results going into the Global Online Poker Championship. He currently holds the 31st position on the CoinPoker Skill Score ranking.
As for the biggest winner of the second week, that title goes to ‘disshitconfusing.’ The player in question accumulated a total of $117,415 in cashes, with the bulk of his profits coming from the win in the GOPC Side: $5,200 Gold Standard HR ($93,940).
There were also a few satellite winners who managed to turn their small initial investments into impressive returns. One that really stands out is ‘Jesucripto,’ who turned his $11 ticket into a victory worth $12,495.
The GOPC Rages On
There is still plenty of action to come in the CoinPoker Global Online Poker Championship as four Main Events continue to build toward Day 2 action. 2,319 stacks have been bagged already.
If things continue at the current pace, the series should comfortably break its $50,000,000 guarantee, bringing heaps of extra value for the players.
So far, it has truly been an international affair, with 44% of the overall field hailing from Europe, 22% of players coming from North America, 15% from South America, and 14% from Asia.
