    Bub’s right. Nice guy, great rags to riches story, and it’s fun to see Phil Gordon (perhaps my favorite player) be so off the mark in saying early (on ESPN’s pay per view) that he was “the weakest player at the table” and didn’t have much of a chance. I’d like to know more about his six kids and the rest of his family. And which is it? Social worker? Psychologist? I’ve heard everything except what he actually does when he goes to work in his day job.

    Follow-up comment: Although Phil Gordon’s running second behind “Beyond the Table,” his ESPN podcast did have a good interview with Jerry Yang this past week (today is 8/12/07). Yang talked a little about his gifts to charity and his good fortune, and didn’t go overboard thanking God for his win. I was amused that Phil did not admit how much he had really criticized Jerry’s play in the live marathon pay per view. I do hope Jerry gets a shot (and does well) at some of the big events. I doubt he will play cash on Monday nights on GSN or hit the circuit trail, as his children are surprisingly young — six of them, the oldest being thirteen. So maybe he will just be a dad.
