Final Table |
|
Kevin Mathers says:
January 26th, 2009 at 6:33am
The triple chance tournament looks to be similar to how they do the 10k PLO event. Players start with 10k in chips with a “free rebuy” of an additional 10k in chips they can use during the first two or three levels. With the buyin set at 3k, maybe something like 2k for each stack?
I assume that ESPN releases the TV schedule soon, starting with a bang with the 40k event, then adding the 50k HORSE, 10k PLO and a few of the smaller events. With 10 “World Championship” events, up from 8 last year, it looks like they’re trying to keep the pros and amateurs separate as much as possible. Also worth noting is that that if you’re a female casino employee over 50, there are at most 38 events available to you for $2,500 or less.
Regarding the November Nine, it’s interesting how it’s spread out over 4 days (November 7-10). I’ve got a feeling there will either be another event during the time frame (the return of the WSOP TOC? or ESPN will be providing more coverage of the final table).
I watched an EPT final table that was held on Saturday, and was filmed for broadcast (with hole cards) with less than 12 hours of turnaround time. Mind you, it was the French who did it, with an English commentary team watching from a monitor (like most international soccer is done on ESPN), but it still was an impressive feat.

I’m not sure about stack sizes in the triple-chance … but players will get “rebuy chips”. What I’m not sure is if they will be able to use 1 or 2 unused chips as add-ons.
That’s pretty interesting about 38 events for $2,500 or less. I think that says a lot … and a seemingly appropriate adjustment, you know, economy and all.
Kevin Mathers says:
January 26th, 2009 at 6:40am
With a buyin of 3k, and the expected double chips that makes it a convenient 2k/player to start w/ rebuy chips. Why call it a triple chance if you only get 1 chip, right?
There were also 38 tournaments last year with a buyin of $2,500 or less (counting the rebuy tournaments of course).
DanM says:
January 26th, 2009 at 6:44am
I can almost guarantee you they wouldn’t start with 2k chips. It will almost certainly by 6k starting chips (and probably 6k for each rebuy).
The idea is a 3k event for some, but a 9k event for others. Probably 6k for most, frankly.
Kevin Mathers says:
January 26th, 2009 at 6:47am
It’s not a rebuy tournament though. Maybe they’ll start with 3k with another 6k behind. I guess we’ll have to wait for the structure sheets to be released to find out for sure.

I think you might be on to something, Kev! Though I also thought you were with your September Six idea, too. I haven't found any note yet of how POY will be determined, either.

Considering they released the schedule 2 hours ago, I don’t think they have all the details worked out yet. Even if they do, you never know when there will be a mysterious rule change in the middle of the WSOP.
Maybe you can ask them that on the eventual conference call.

***Even if they do, you never know when there will be a mysterious rule change in the middle of the WSOP.***
True dat.

$40K NL Hold’em… I need a loan Dan I think I got a shot.
DanM says:

I can think of a lot of poker players who could benefit from a federal bailout.
Kevin Mathers says:
January 26th, 2009 at 9:30am
Going back to the triple chance event (from a comment by Andrew Feldman over at ESPN.com):
From Seth Palansky — “Essentially like a re-buy without paying for rebuying. You’ll get a starting chip stack, and then two additional equal chip stacks to be used at any point you wish during the first two levels. So you can elect to take all three equal stacks up front, wait until you bust, add a stack anywhere in between.”
Michele Lewis says:
January 27th, 2009 at 6:14am
I’m excited for the triple stack. It will be nice to play an event that has some up front play. Or at least the opportunity for upfront play.
