Vote on Texas poker bill on Friday House calendar

For those wondering when HB 222 would make the Texas House calendar, this coming Friday is your lucky day. I’ll leave it to Dan or other Texas legislation experts to interpret the fact that it’s buried on the calendar, but it looks like it’s made some progress, so fingers crossed poker fans

LOL, it’s true. Moving on, vote tomorrow or supposedly Monday.
I wrote the post that follows this one last night … about yesterday.

I assume the way bills are on the calendar that’s the order they’ll be voted on. But either way, this will get an up or down vote?

Yeah, this is hardly buried — I didn’t even make it to the halfway point on the scroll bar. In 2007 we were in the bottom quadrant.
And that’s exactly what it means … the House will have a brief(?) debate and vote yay or nay … either we die there or move on to the Senate.

P.S. They do move the bills around sometimes. I think the Speaker of the House has authority on that … and though he says it has no impact on his votes, this is where having a dude with a longtime family history in the horse-race biz holding the gavel probably helps us out.

A point someone brought up to me over on 2+2 said this would be the second reading of HB 222. Doesn’t that mean it’ll have to get to the third reading before a vote actually takes place?

I don’t know the answer to that. I think “second reading” is the house vote, but i’m not 100 percent sure.
