A Week in Review: Anderson Joins an Elite WSOP Club, While Cheating Scandals Shake the Poker World

Another week has gone by, and this one was marked by a couple of scandals involving potential cheating in both online and live poker.

An online poker player going under the moniker Paul Gregg was accused of cheating a number of high-stakes poker players in online games, which was confirmed by ambassadors for two of the biggest poker sites.

Over on the live felt, HCL mainstay Britney was accused of potential cheating, collusion, and unpaid debts by a number of the show’s regulars, which has led to Britney taking a break from playing for an undisclosed period of time.

On the brighter side, Calvin Anderson was able to win an online WSOP event and add another bracelet to his stacked cabinets, as he joins an elite 8-time WSOP winners club.

Calvin Anderson Joins the 8 Bracelet Club

Calvin Anderson has been a serious poker grinder for many years, but his most recent results have propelled him in terms of popularity, as he’s become a household name this last summer.

huAnderson won two bracelets at this year’s  WSOP in Las Vegas and just took another step toward poker immortality, as he won his eighth World Seris of Poker bracelet playing an online WSOP event at WSOP.com.

Anderson took down the $777 NLH Lucky 7’s event, beating 363 players to take home $48,914, and more importantly, his eighth WSOP bracelet.

This win makes Anderson a part of an elite WSOP players’ club, as only 12 players in total have been able to triumph at the WSOP tables eight times or more.

The WSOP champion had a wild ride to his eighth as well. It all started with a night on the town, as he visited the Resorts World casino on the Las Vegas Strip for some slot action and entertainment.

While playing slots, Anderson joined the tournament on his mobile phone, probably not expecting to get too far, as is usually the case in poker tournaments.

Yet, one thing led to another, and Anderson racked up a stack that would eventually lead him all the way to the final table.

He got to the final table while self-driving to his Las Vegas home in his Tesla, and would only switch over to playing on his laptop when the final table was already set.

The final table included the likes of Nick Palma, and Anderson ran pure, eventually reaching the final table with a 50:1 chip lead, which he easily turned into a victory, as there was no drama in the final minutes of the game.

Anderson now joins the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Nick Schulman in the exclusive club, and although these players may have more in terms of popularity, Anderson continues to prove he is their match in terms of poker skill every step of the way.

A New Super User Scandal Breaks

A brand-new super user scandal is shaking the poker world, as high-stakes poker games have once again been compromised by bad actors.

The most recent attack against the high-stakes poker community is nowhere near as sophisticated as the original super user scandal of some 25 years ago, but is still every bit as serious.

According to multiple reports, including Spanish poker outlet Poker Red, a poker user going by the screen name “Paul Gregg” has been banned from multiple poker sites and found to be cheating on multiple occasions.

According to the reports, the user behind the Paul Gregg account was using some type of computer virus, which was attached to poker apps like Jurojin Poker and IntuitiveTables to compromise the devices of particular high-stakes poker players and gain access to their computer screens.

In doing so, Paul Gregg was able to see the players’ hole cards and, unfortunately, win large amounts of money from them in very short time periods while playing the highest-stakes games around.

Ambassadors for both GGPoker and CoinPoker have confirmed the super user scandal did exist and that the user was banned for having unusually high win rates and suspicious activity across the board, although the exact method of cheating was not apparent.

The user also had hundreds of thousands of poker funds confiscated by the sites’ security departments, but perhaps too late for some of his opponents.

While only a handful of high-stakes poker players were actually affected by this most recent super user scandal, it serves as another warning on just how dangerous playing high-stakes poker online can be.

On the other hand, the prompt reaction by the poker sites and the players who reported the account also shows that the poker community has come a long way from the days when cheating in online poker could go on for months without so much as a note.

Hustler Casino Live’s Britney Announces a Break

Britney Jing has become one of the most popular Hustler Casino Live regulars over the last couple of years, playing on more shows than most other players and consistently giving and creating action across the board.

Over the last week, however, a number of allegations were made against Britney, starting with another HCL regular, C Ye, who accused Britney of not paying off her debts that arose from a staking agreement between the two.

C Ye originally said that Britney owed her money, and Britney denied it publicly on X. This, however, opened the floodgates, as other players Britney had played with started to pile on and make accusations of their own.

The likes of Aaron Zhang and Wesley Fei attacked Britney, calling her a habitual liar and bringing up situations where Britney may have been involved in cheating, collusion, or not paying her poker debts.

Wesley posted a clip of a hand played on HCL where Britney was accused by Peter of colluding with Jack, another Asian player on HCL, and the entire conversation happened in Chinese. Wesley was kind enough to translate the conversation, and it was clear that Peter was upset about potential collusion between the two.

Following continued accusations by a number of people involved with HCL, and despite the likes of Ryan Feldman and Nik Airball taking Britney’s side, the show and Britney decided it’s best that she take a break.

Britney will be taking a break from playing on the HCL shows for a while, as HCL investigates the accusations and further clarifications are made.

In the meantime, the HCL shows will perhaps lose some of their allure, as Britney has been a mainstay on the program and has contributed a great deal to driving the action and entertainment value of the production.
