Stardusty Go Bye-Bye

A few years ago, it seemed like Old Vegas casino implosions were all the rage. At that same time, the Stardust was receiving accolades for having the best poker room in town. Funny how things change. Anyhow, the not-so-venerable Stardust will shut its doors for good on Wednesday. I can only assume Uncle Ray is saddened. Ahh, the memories …
Speaking of … I dug up some old (pre 3.0) Pokerati posts about what will prove to be my final days at the once-snazzy joint.
Makes me wonder which of the “new” hotel-resorts on the Strip will be around 30 or 40 years from now. My bet is that the great poker room at Excalibur will not be part of the landscape.

Aunt Sue and I stayed there a couple of days at the end of August. We knew it would be the last time. It IS sad. They don’t make ’em like they used to.
The Stardust has always had the best race and sports book, too. Caesar’s and Bally’s are good, but the ‘Dust was the best.
Actually, everything about that place is good. Gamblimg, shows, restaurants, shops, pool area. It’s a crime that places like this need to be replaced.
A little side note. I stayed at the original Castaways (where Fashion Show mall now is). Gone. I stayed at the Landmark. (Boom). Also the Boardwalk. (bye-bye). Now the Stardust (crumble). And of course, I often stayed at Grandma’s (Your newest Texan).
I wonder why nobody wants to rent me a room in Vegas anymore.
