New Game 4 HSP totally unkewl
Is anyone else watching reruns of High Stakes Poker right now? They’ve got some newfangled “Do you want this card?” text thingy where you can text-message in some card you may or may not want to see for an undisclosed charge to your cell phone bill.
So what’s the over/under on how long it stays, and whether or not it will reappear when Season Four begins airing later this month? Like seriously, is GSN’s greed in making a few extra cents off the text-horny worth ruining the best poker show on TV? Apparently so, because they’ve given whateverdafug game they are inviting you to play prime real estate on the screen — it covers up the chips and fingers handling them, and the side-game cards they’ve added are bigger than the real hole cards being shown.
Terrible.
UPDATE: It’s called “High Stakes Poker – Play like a Pro.”
Still annoying.

Couldn’t agree more. I actually missed most of season three and was thrilled that I ran across in last night right at the beginning of the two hours. Then the text-garbage reduced me to flipping between HSP and Sex and the City reruns. Finally, I just gave up.

I don’t get GSN on my Time Warner cable without upgrading another $30, so I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it. This isn’t exactly encouraging…
I sent an e-mail to my PR contact over at GSN to get some answers and will post them when he responds. Until then, if people want to complain, there is a form on the website to submit with comments/questions. It can be found at http://www.gsn.com/help/contact.php.

I don’t watch those reruns. Tried to watch the first one where they did that and I spent my time fast forwarding. Now if I see that crap pop up Tivo deletes it and I move on to something less annoying. I have seen a few episodes where they did not do that so it must be a certain time frame that gets lucky enough to have the “spam” show up during the episode. Would hate to miss out on Season 4 but if they put that garbage on there during the first run episodes I will do the same. Don’t screw up my show guys!
Jen, could you find out from this PR person if they will ever release the shows on DVD? I tried contacting GSN and the folks that reply to email via the site…are of no help.

Tivo can delete that? Cool. Much better option that putting tape on the screen.

I could not agree more. I have been watching the past two weeks and found this little game to be completely annoying. I am hoping that this game will not be on the new season as well.

heh…delete as in…not watching this POS episode. i think whoever thought putting that crap up there was a good idea is related to the numbnut at Fox that pulled Firefly off the air. uh oh…feel blood pressure rising. need to go drink more coffee and calm down.

I heard back from the Executive Director of Publicity & Corporate Communications (fancy title for PR guy) at GSN, and he wrote the following:
“The graphics won’t be on the new season of HSP at 9 PM on Monday nights. It was a test that we were running on repeats of previous seasons.”
If anyone wants to call GSN to complain, the main phone number is 310-255-6800.
Ed, I have asked about HSP on DVD in the past, and the answer was that GSN will eventually put everything out on DVD but currently wants viewers to keep tuning in for the repeats.

No longer get GSN, but happened to catch some of last week’s episode & saw what yr talkin’ about. As Bart Simpson would say, “I didn’t think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows.”
