RE (5): Horsing Around… With Tom Schneider

The last of the $50K H.O.R.S.E. mega satellites is going on now. The $2250 buy-in mega caught the eye of about 40 people, including Anna Wroblewski, Mike Wattel, and Jimmy “Gobboboy” Fricke. Oh, and Tom Schneider, who is no longer seated because he is now headed out of the Amazon Room. “Outski,” he said. “Outski and Hutch.”

At the first break of the mega, Tom stated that he was short-stacked and would probably be out soon. (Ding!) Regardless of the satellite outcome, he plans to play in the $50K event tomorrow and was very honest about how he would do so. He has sold some pieces of himself and is in discussions with a few other possible takers. At this point, he believes he will have to put up a good chunk of the buy-in himself, somewhere in the range of $20K and $35K.

While Tom doesn’t seem too thrilled about forking over that kind of dough, he doesn’t see being able to skip this event with so much prestige and money on the line. So, with bias firmly intact, go Tom!

There’s more to it than that. Yours truly bought 1 percent of his action. Let’s make fun of how desperate he obviously had to be for the cash until he gets really close to the money.

I wonder why he needs backers if he cashed for over $150k so far? Wonder how much, realistically, is he up for the WSOP?

    edbuck,

Every pro is looking for backers especially for this horse event… Lets assume he is up 150k for this WSOP and let’s assume for for this discussion his Bankroll is a total of 200K why would he put up and risk 25% of his bankroll on one tourney.. That’s Bad bankroll management.. He would need at least 1 million dollars in his active poker bankroll to buy into a 50K event on his own.. So with all that said if he can get backers to ease the cost’s of this event then that’s Smart business. Now selling 1% to Dan is another story.. Tom you realize that when you cash Dan will be waiting for his 1% if you don’t cash he wont remember the conversation… But I have faith you will cash!! go getum Tom !!

Assuming this is not a red herring he’s throwing out to me to throw off all the leaches who hit him up for money …

After busting out of the HORSE satellite, he made some comment about poker not being kind to him, and I tapped on the press box tables to remind him we always have a home for him here in the fuller-time poker media.

He laughed until I pointed out that working for media peanuts actually woulda been a plus EV situation for him this year (as he is down big in the cash games — having booked only one winning session in the past month).

BTW, regarding the Dan-backing … dude, he’s already been paid. Pokerati’s entire payroll account is out of my hands now!

Dan , your so sensitive today. I didn’t even bring up the pink shirt..

And you shouldn’t have given him the entire account.. you should have kept a little for your troubles..

That was the answer I was looking for. I kinda figured that was the case with Tom, seems like a loose-aggressive player at the cash table. Everyone knows common sense to use OPM to finance your games, but thanks for the explanation Buddha.
