Secret Registration Numbers: 4,649 as of 5 pm Day 1A

Harrah’s, the WSOP, and just about everybody is being tight-lipped about how many folks are gonna be in the Big One ’08. Presumably because no one knows. I’m still thinking 7k is a pretty good over-under. We have no totals for Day 1A itself yet, but that’s why we can presume the number that briefly flashed on a special computer screen and observed by Benjo is accurate for the total count as of now. 4,649 with three days of sign-up to go.

Pokernews did say 1,310 for today about an hour ago (not counting any voids/late registrations).

That number is way off. Pokerlistings says 1600 or so, they seem to have the most thorough coverage of the event so far.

From Pokernews:
We know many of you are curious as to the final number of players who started their Main Event today– as are we. Per Tournament Director Jack Effel, the “unofficial official” number of players today is 1,297. The “official official” number will officially be released at the dinner break. Complications like late buy-ins, no-shows, people changing their Day 1 play date, etc. all are contributing to the delay in the release of this number.
