UIGEA Rules Finalized
by Kevin Mathers, Nov 12, 2008 | 12:17 pm
For those that want to read it, head over to the Federal Reserve website.
The final rule goes into effect January 19, 2009 with compliance by December 1, 2009.
Update: could a rule passed during the days of Newt Gingrich be the savior to the poker player?

Ack. I can’t believe it actually happened. I mean I can, but for shame!
So any clue what this means for the industry as a whole? Does this change any current operations for the next year?
And should we all be looking to remove money from our online accounts ASAP?

I guess we’ll find out those answers in the coming weeks/months. I’m sure all the lawyerly experts will come out of the woodwork to go over all this stuff.

Looks like we’re screwed. I’d personally like to thank Bill Frist for being a fuckhead, and President Bush and his lawyerly buddies for continuing the fuckheadedness.

You’re the second person to say that, Smokkee … I’ve been wondering why, as I’ve been under the impression that the PPA has been doing some really good work.
I think the problem is the poker media, and the poker companies’ reliance on them — but by becoming obvious shills for press releases, it means anything we have to say is taken less seriously by the non-poker media. Whether we’re talking about a final table or a major political issue, our shit is nothing if we can’t get people who could care less about poker to, um, care.
