RE: Ugly Late Entry
by Dan Michalski, Jul 6, 2009 | 6:35 pm
Some people you may recognize not playing in the main event, much to their own surprise after showing up in some cases a good 15 minutes before cards went in the air! (mostly from Feldman at ESPN.com):
Tom Franklin (head of WPA)
TJ Cloutier (legendary+PAC member+craps)
Mickey Appleman (breaking 30-year streak of main events)
Minh Ly (Doyle pal)
Brandon Adams (Full Tilt Red Pro)
Melissa Hayden
Random Australian guy screaming about desire to sue
(Let me know if there are others to add to the list.)

I think the random Aussie guy was Tony Hachem, who has now miraculously appeared in today’s field

And what makes you think it was him? You know, beyond it making for a really cool story …

There’s a PokerNews update about him making a really late appearance today.

CardPlayer had an article about an Australian who was upset, and it wasn’t Tony Hachem.

Another note, TJ’s part of the WSOP PAC, as late as April this year.

T.J. Cloutier was at the WSOP PAC dinner on Friday night, so he’s apparently still part of the Player’s Advisory Council. I think the charges of favoritism might be premature, because it certainly didn’t work for Cloutier.

***I think the charges of favoritism might be premature***
I totally agree. But at the same time, they have to be expected. And just like late entries will be an issue the WSOP has to deal with for next year, so will the perceptions of favoritism.

BJ, you know where the real problems will come in … if one of the many people suspected of getting in via “favoritism” goes super-deep, and especially if they make the final table.

Tj Cloutier only decided to play when he saw they had tables set up close to the craps tables all the way past Buzio’s.

fwiw, tj cloutier is on the PAC, but he is supposedly one of the least active members.

Or Patrik Antonius and Capt. Tom obviously.
BTW, Reitman was seated in the 10 seat. Only 3 other players had that honor on Tuesday. Apparently David Benyamine and two others were removed after registration ended, which is why there’s 2809 players.
