WPT Changes Logo Policy for Season 7

by , Feb 18, 2008 | 12:56 pm

Players have spoken and Steve Lipscomb has apparently listened. As the WPT tries to recover from the fiscal beating it’s taken for the last couple years of generally crappy programming ratings at a time when High Stakes Poker was just finding its stride and the online poker world was in a tailspin … (why did the PPT collapse again? Those shows were great!) … a simple adjustment to a Berman-Lipscomb-Corp. policy stands to put a little more money into players’ pockets. An email sent out a month ago:

Dear WPT Player,

This is a quick email to announce that we are revising the rules for WPT Final Table Player Sponsorship. In previous seasons, pre-approved sponsors were required to send WPT a list of their players prior to the start of each event. If one of the listed players made the Main Event Final Table, the Player would be able to wear the sponsor’s pre-approved logo. No other logos were accepted for that player.

Commencing this weekend at Gold Strike’s World Poker Open (January 20 – 24, 2008) no lists are required of the sponsors and Final Table players will be able to choose which, if any, pre-approved logo they would like to wear for the final table. Players must be wearing the approved logo promptly at the start of the Final Table taping. The rules apply as before regarding the size, placement and number of pre-approved logos. For a complete list of rules, including the list of pre-approved logos, please follow the Sponsorship Guidelines link at the bottom of the Season VI Tournament Schedule on our website:

This list of pre-approved sponsors will continue to grow, so I strongly urge you return to the site prior to entering any WPT event.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you at the next Final Table!

Best regards,

Looking at the list of pre-approved sponsors, it’s most of the places you’d expect. The one that stands out though is Zini’s Pizza, which appears to be two locations in Dallas. Who knew they were big time enough to pull that off.

Interesting. That place is pretty new — I had never heard of it, and I haven’t been gone that long. But in the locations they picked, staying open til 4 am should be pretty huge.

I wonder who’s behind this pizza effort, and why they love poker.

Tim Frazin made the final table of the WPT Gulf Coast Poker Championship down in Biloxi in September. And Tim Frazin owns and operates two Zini’s Pizza locations in the Dallas area. He was the one who submitted the logo for approval.

    Ah, yes, here he is:

    Thanks, BJ. Go Dallas Pizza/Poker!

But is the pizza any good?

  6. Ed

How could it not be good. I would hit one of these small pizza shops before I hit a Pizza Hut or Papa Johns’s Pizza.

Making me wish Sal’s was closer to the office.

EDIT: I said Papa’s Pizza at first but realized the BAD mistake. The Papa’s that use to be in Addison was great and is always missed when we want to do pizza for lunch.

I love to sample all of the different pizza joints throughout the country and haven’t found any better than Zini’s in Dallas. If in Dallas, try it. You won’t be disappointed.
