RE: Could Men Be the Master of L.A. Poker?

As a result of my last post about Men “The Master” Nguyen being on fire this year on the tournament circuit, albeit most of his victories are in smaller Los Angeles events, commenters raised several possible explanations, from the assistance of a Muse to chip dumping from his horses/friends. Believe me, if I have the chance to interview Men at the Legends of Poker main event, I won’t shy away from posing those questions.

But in the meantime, Men has done it again. After winning Event #13 in the Legends of Poker series, he went on to win Event #15, which was the $545 Omaha hi/lo tournament. Seriously. Either he is on an unbelievable run, or the Bike has unbelievably bad security and no one is watching the chips.

More likely than not, it’s both.

Men was the first professional I ever sweated for an entire tournament and I have watched him often since. Not denying his previous unsavory history but… the man or rather the Men can play and he intimidates amateur players at the table better than any other player I have ever seen. His advantage in those small buy-in events is enormous and he takes them down regularly.

    Check out his stats: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=184

I wouldn’t bring up anything of the sort in an interview with him… unless you’re unafraid of getting capped in the parking lot of the Bike.

I assume you’re joking, right Change? I’ve never heard any hint of accusations of violence from Men and the Viet Crew.

Here’s the article people like to refer to about Men: http://www.laweekly.com/news/features/dealing-with-the-master/2830/

It’s over 5 years old, but still interesting reading.

That’s the article that taught me pretty much everything i know about the guy (beyond what i’ve seen at the table).

What a way to go. Taken out by Men’s boys in the Bike parking lot.

Would security turn a blind eye?

Your real age would be all over the net….

Steve, you wouldn’t be there to stop it all? Would you at least be there to photo it?
