Pokerati Reps on the Felt Today
Go Dan and Karridy!
While I get some work done from home in sunny, springy Southern Cali, my Pokerati pals are actually looking for fortune and fame on the felt playing some tournament poker.
Dan is playing the much-hyped Dream Team Poker event at Caesars Palace. On his team? Shane “Shaniac†Schleger and Dr. Pauly, playing as the Team Tao of Pokerati, also known as Tao of Pokerati’s 420 All Stars. Look for some Tao of Pokerati episodes to come as they record some of their intense strategy sessions and gossip about the other players. Sure, these three may be taking more breaks (certainly at 4:20pm today) than other players in the room, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be inspired to take it down.
Karridy is competing in the Texas Amateur Poker Championship. At last post, he was the chipleader with 50,000 chips in Level 4. After his recent visit to the WSOP Academy at Winstar, he might just have that extra insight that will take him all the way.
Go Guys!
Keep up with them both via CSR reports as the day progresses.
UPDATE: Karridy finished 12th in his event. 300something entries, so almost definitely in the money, but probably just short of the big money. –DanM
UPDATE: $1,190.

Mekhi Pfeiffer is still alive. He says hi, Jen.

So besides being an early elimination, what did you think of the DTP experience?

Tell Mekhi I said hi!!!
Fibber. Tease. Meanie.

Kevin, this is an awesome event, even though the likes of Thor Hansen will probably complain about the $75k taken out of the prize pool. These things ain’t cheap to run, you know … and overall, I think most players will believe they got value for their buy-in.
And the team nature of it all makes it a little easier to swallow the heavy juice.

PS … BJ just walked by letting me know that Mekhi Pfeiffer is out.
BTW, Shaniac is out now, too … so it’s all up to Pauly.

Where would one get $75k taken out of the prize pool? 444 x 500 = $222k, with a 60/40 split for the team/individual prizes. That’s the total mentioned by Pokerpages as the total prize pool.
I’m assuming he looked at the proposed prize pool at dreamteampoker.com (based on 100 teams) and took that as gospel.

I’m not sure. Haven’t done the math yet. It was $500+50, btw … but I assume the 50 went to Caesar’s probably.
Does pokerpages still exist? PokerListings seems to be the most active coverers here.

Asking around … I think you are right that Thor doesn’t know what he’s talking about … like he forgot the individual prize pool portion.

Though he’s not wearing today, Team Pokerati member David Pflaster is still alive and well … and, frankly, I think he’s a big threat — a successful low-stakes grinder who is otherwise unknown … he’ll go far.

PokerPages is doing coverage – actually better coverage and more frequent posting than PL.

Why CardPlayer’s not doing anything is a bit surprising. If you find enough people on Twitter, you can get a good idea of what’s happening.

Pauly’s out in the 140’s. The one thing that would really make this better is to have DTP have a process that you can at least attempt to track a team’s progress. They’ve got Twitter, but the last tweet they made was on Wednesday.
